Novel study: Memory

As I keep reading about this book I start to realize what it is exactly about and how it has a big connection when it comes to resilience and how our character shows resilience as the book goes on.

So for a quick recap on my previous post, we know that Johnny who is the main character is a drunk guy who is going through a lot because his sister Janinne had sadly passed away in a tragic accident. We had not yet learned of her cause of death in the previous post but we do know that Johnny is in the grieving phase. We also learned that he is on a journey to find Janinne's best friend Bonny because she was the other witnesses to his siter's death. Upon trying to find the bonny he comes upon Bonny's family who basically gets him drunker. They also question why he was there and whether or not it had to do with the march. We last left off with Johnny on a car ride with Bonny's Mum because Bonny wasn't home and he was too drunk to get home.

So what is new? We have now discovered that Johnny once again has awoken in a place he is unfamiliar with and he is now trying to remember his name and the events that lead him there. As he is trying to remember the events of last night he then remembers his sister's death. Right now we learn that Jannine has died after she fell off of a bridge and her scream was faint then silent. Johnny described that it was like a humming song. We also know that Bonny must have been on the opposite side of where Johnny was when they witnessed the accident. I have now learned thank's to the book that I can now tell you that all of Johnny's friends wish that he had been the one to fall and not her.

So Johnny is now trying his best to find a way home when a whiff of sounds that he wasn't meant to hear stop's him in his tracks. The sound is nothing bad or scary but it did make him take a detour and follow whatever the sound is.  This eventually leads him into an unfamiliar street that then takes him to shop's and those shops lead him to tinner shops. As he continues to walk he can hear Bonny's voice in his head along with memories of her. For example, he has a flashback to when he, Bonny, and Jannine use to laugh about Bonny having powers of predicting and that when the day came he wished that Bonny could reverse time to get back his sister but sadly as we all know that wish couldn't come true.

By reading this book I feel that Johnny is more resilient than I thought! I empathize with him because his friend blames him and he probably feels a lot of survivor's guilt. I also think that Johnny not just has grief but also has PTSD. I think that he has Bonny as a voice in his head because Bonny was his sister's best friend. I also think he uses this voice for gudience. I think it is nice that he is going in this Journey so maybe he could get better.

Shark fining

During social studies we have been learning about sustainability and the ocean, This week I have learned about shark fining is why people do it and how does it affect our planet.

So what is shark fining? Shark thinning is where someone would take a shark and cut off its fins and discard them back into the ocean. Just by taking the shark out of the ocean, it is suffering because it starts to suffocate without air. When the fishermen cur off their fins the sharks are in agonizing pain then once they are disposed of into the ocean they suffer a slow horrible death.

Why is this a delicacy? People from japan to china and all over the world find that shark fining is considered a  delicacy and should be celebrated at celebratory events such as weddings, birthdays, funerals, (etc.). The reasoning behind why they think this is a delicacy is because what they do with the shark thins. After cutting off their thins they then ship the thins to markets or black market's so they can be turned into a soup that is considered to have special properties. The soup can be priced up to $100 or more.

This impact's our ocean in many different way's. We have already addressed that shark thinning makes the shark suffer but we have not addressed how it has an impact on sea life. With my demands of shark thin soup or shark meat product's our shark's are becoming an endangered species. So Hypnotically let's say human's don't make a change and carry on killing shark's into intinction what does that mean? Sadly this mean's all our fishes die out. Shark's are on top of the food chain for marine life so once sharks die out the next the fish species be low them become the top of the food chain, So now they don't have a predator to hunt them these fish then eat there prey into intinction. Since they ate there food they die out from starvation and this goes on and on down the food chain until there is no more fish in the sea. Now there is no more fish we have lost half of our resources for half out land animals including us.

So in conclusion shark's are important because they are just impotent as bees. Since sharks control the marine life we know without them it becomes chaotic

Pink shirt day

Pink shirt day  2021 Woman’s Clothes on Microsoft Windows 10 May 2019 Update

In my school, we are one of the many in New Zealand that celebrate Pink shirt day. Pink shirt day is a day where students are encouraged to wear the color pink in support of anti-bullying. I am hoping I can scavenger around my closet and find a pink shirt because I believe in the cause. For pink shirt day, the student leaders of our school have organized pink-themed baking such as cupcakes to raise money and also for the hungry students. All we need to do is bring a gold coin donation. I will wear my pink shirt in support of the little me and all the other kids, adults, teens, animals, and babies that are a victim of bullying.

The first-ever pink shirt day originated back in 2007 a year after I was born. It came about because there was a younger boy in Canada who had just turned into a year ten and one day he decided to wear a pink t-shirt when kids started to notice that a boy was wearing the color pink they started to bully him. They didn't just bully him they harassed this boy and threatened him. They were also very homophobic to him.
Two students noticed this bullying one day and decided to wear a pink shirt to stand against bullying and homophobia. After wearing these pink shirts they then gave out pink shirts for students to wear in support of the cause too.

I wish I was there that day and I met that kid felt so happy after that. I imagine he must have felt alone when he was being harassed.  So next time you see someone smile or even talk with them it can make a big change. If you see someone being bullied stand up for them to cause by doing this you can change their life.

Memory Novel studiey

In class, we are reading Memory by Margret Mahy a famous New Zealand Children and young adult book author who sadly died on July 14th, 2012 at the age of 76 New Zealanders may also know her name because of a park that was named after her.

So far I have learnt that memory is about a mad sad depressed drunk man who is in grief. I know this because as my class and I read pages one to four we learnt that he is drunk because the book explains that he protests to the darkness that he is not drunk since we know that he is truly talking to no one we know that he must be drunk.

A way The class and I knew that he was a sad depressed man was because In the book the author explains to us that his sister Ginnie passed away. We also know that he is sad because we learn that not only did his sister pass away but he also was one of the witnesses of her death. Well, reading we find out the second witness was the sister's best friend.

As we go on to read the last couple of pages that we had time for we know that he is a pretty angry person. The cause of this anger I don't know but we can tell he is angry because of the bruises on his face indicating that he had been in a bar fight.

Since we don't know any more main characters besides him we don't know much about the book. I am hoping they introduce a new character like his parents or the twins. I have a theory that the next main character may be the sister best friend who was also a witness to the sisters' death.

The new information that I have learnt is that he is currently on the founder of the town's property. This property has traps and guard dogs that secure the premises so I predict that he might get in a lot of trouble soon.

Rest in peace Margret Mahy and Infulureser for New Zealander's and people around the world

The power of yet

Recently I watched a video about the power of yet and how students' brain activity can improve if they get a task that challenges them and how they can show resilience when they face these challenges. The phycologist by the name of Carol Dweck lead the conference in the video gave a challenging test above their level then she asked a bunch of students how they liked it by her surprise she found out they liked the challenge. The video also talked about how teachers can improve their teaching by using encouraging them with the word yet and praising them throughout their projects and not after. By doing this the student is encouraged to keep working and be reselient. It also helps them in the future not to seek out awards and praise after they did something.
