Slavery through time part 2

We learned about Spirituals, Spirituals is a type of religious song that gave slaves hope and faith when at that time was a very hard thing to have. When they sang these songs they always gathered in groups called praise houses or bush meetings. Slaves also used songs to secretly communicate with each other about dangers ahead or how to escape and where to meet.

Here is a Spiritual song they sang that gave them hope and faith.

Slavery through time part 3                    Who is Harriet Tubman and why is she important?

Harriet Tubman was speculated to be born in March 1820 or 1822 and was one of many in those times to be born into Slavery. Harriet Tubman was one of eight children in her family, her father Benjamin Ross was a manumitted (meaning released from slavery) as a recrement from his former owners will in 1840 at the age of 45 but his real age was around 55. Benjamin still carried on working for the Thompson Family who held him as a slave.  Harriet Tubman's mother, Harriet Greene is also known as Rit was a mother and a slave owned by Mary Pattison Brodess. Harriet Tubman an enslaved woman who escaped in 1849 became a conductor who lead slaves to freedom before the Civil war she also was a nurse, Union spy, and a women suffrage supporter.

Slavery through time part 4

A famous Spiritual song

A famous spiritual song that was sung in those was a very historical song called Swing low sweet chariot wroten by Wallace Willis. The lyrics are about someone coming to rescue the slaves from slavery you can hear the meaning if you listen carefully to the lyrics. To elaborate in the lyrics it says swing low sweet chariot and carry me home. I find it very sad but moving to listen to the lyrics knowing the history.

Lyrics to the song.

Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry he home x 2
I looked over Jordan and what did I see
Coming for to carry he home
A band of angels coming after me
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home
If you get there before I do
Coming for to carry me home
Tell all my friends I'm coming too
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming for to carry me home.

How is this significant today?
This is a historical topic that still affects the world today we sure this recently in the BLM protest for George Floyd and countless other black  African Americans and that's why it is important to report about.

Band: Six60

Song: Roots

Genre: Cultural, R&B, Contemporary, Blues

Instrumentals: Bass Guitar, Electric guitar, Keyboard, Drums.

I like the way Six60 played their guitar and let

the audience sing. I also loved how cultural diverse

Their music is and that is how they can connect to their audience.
